    Schedule Your Tax Appointment Today

The 2019 tax filing season is now in full swing. January 31 was the deadline for tax forms like your Form W-2, Form 1099-DIV, and other statements to be issued to you, so now is the time to collect your tax forms, organize your records and make an appointment to get your tax return completed.

As you organize your tax records, here are a few things to look out for:

    • Missing statements. Make sure that you have received all W-2s and 1099s including any related to gambling winnings, income, interest, and mutual funds.
    • Dependent conflicts. If you are claiming a dependent on your tax return, be sure that your child did not claim him or herself as a dependent, and that an ex-spouse hasn’t already filed a tax return with the same dependent’s social security number.
    • Name mismatches. If you recently got married, make sure that any name change that might have occurred was filed with the Social Security Administration.
    • Missing deduction documentation. Be sure that you have documentation for all deductions that you plan to claim. Common forms of documentation include charitable contribution recaps, medical expense documents, child-care forms, property tax forms, home sales records, pension statements, and retirement forms.
